IAPS ATHLETICS  COMPETITION

On Thursday 18th of May, nine pupils from St Pius travelled to Trafford to compete in the Regional IAPS Athletics Final. Lead by Mr Long and Mrs Warden the team were excited to compete and eager to do well. The first event was the Hurdles with Mark, Melissa, Shreya and Aryan. They all ran superbly and placed well in their races with Mark winning his race and therefore qualifying for the National Final in Birmingham later this year.

Oliver and Bharath flew to some impressive distances in the long jump, with Ben and Sehr throwing amazingly in the shot and discus. Melissa and Mark also threw very well in the Javelin placing well in their age groups.

Back on the track Jude and Ayran ran in the 200m which was very exciting to watch. Shreya, Jude and Bharath followed in Usain Bolt’s footsteps with the 100m and all looked confident and impressive in their races. Oliver ran in a very tough 800m against boys a year older than him, but he held his own and ran a strong race.

Our boy’s relay team consisted of Bharath, Jude, Mark, and Oliver. The boys felt extra ready for this race after all the relay practice Mrs Warden had done with them and it showed in their race. Well done to everyone who competed and we wish Mark the best of luck at the National Final!
