Lower Prep (4-7 Yrs)
In Lower Prep, pupils move into a more formal learning environment.
Our pupils are exposed to a more challenging curriculum that introduces more problem solving, independent learning while still ensuring that the curriculum is enriching, varied and fun.
Learning becomes more structured with separate subjects being taught but it is still topic-based. Every class from Reception to Year 2 has their own class teacher who delivers the majority of the curriculum.
Pupils receive specialist teaching for French, Drama, Music, PE, Forest School, Street Dance, Tap and Ballet. All children access IT regularly both as specific Computing lessons and as part of their normal curriculum lessons to support their learning.
Learning is still very much based on doing and discussing but as the children become more literate and numerate, they are able to record and structure their learning on paper more often.
A balanced amount of homework is provided that reinforces learning and instils an independent work ethic in children from a young age. Reading and phonics homework starts in Reception. By Year 1 homework is set in English, Maths and a set topic.
Academic rigour is at the heart of what we do, but we never forget that there is more to childhood and learning than exams, such as physical development, teamwork and leadership skills, moral, social, cultural and spiritual development.
