Upper Prep (7-11 Yrs)

Upper Prep for pupils aged 7-11 is rich, varied and creative.

Upper Prep is built not only to ensure our children meet their academic potential but also to foster enthusiasm, confidence and emotional intelligence.

In Upper Prep, pupils still have a form teacher who is closely involved in their learning. As in the earlier years of their education, pupils in Years 3 and 4 are taught by form teachers in their classrooms and also have a greater variety of teachers to help prepare them for Senior School and to allow more specialist teaching.

There is still specialist teaching for Drama, French, Music and Sports. Children are introduced to specialist subjects such as Design & Technology, Art and STEM. Children move about more between lessons to have access to more advanced equipment.

The children are taught by a specialist Science teacher in the science room and the Languages teacher inspires the children to adopt a love of languages in French and Spanish (Year 6).

At St Pius X Catholic Preparatory School, we are ambitious for every child and we are committed to ensuring our tailored approach, our tracking and monitoring, our stretch and challenge, all come together to deliver the strongest and most positive outcomes they can.

In Year 5 and 6, we prioritises Mathematics and English with a structured approach. In Mathematics there is emphasis on logical reasoning, problem solving and analysis. English lessons focus on creative writing, advanced comprehension and vocabulary skills. Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning includes critical thinking skills, 2D and 3D Spacial, brain training activities and complex puzzles.

Our pupils achieve their full potential, this may be academic accolades, musical performances, or representing the school in sport or Science. They develop resilience and a portfolio of interests that enable them to thrive as individuals. Whilst most children progress to their chosen Independent, Grammar or State School, we take great care to ensure that all children are well-equipped with the skills that they can later apply at GCSE, A Level and in the working world.
